This Chicken &amp; Biscuits recipe is pretty much my standard for that kind of night. It&#8217;s really straightforward and always seems to hit the spot, especially when it&#8217;s a bit chilly out or after a long day.</p><h2>What I Like About This One</h2><p>It&#8217;s just a solid, easy recipe. You can get it on the table in about 45 minutes from start to finish, which is great for a weeknight. It&#8217;s got that classic, hearty flavor that feels like a proper home-cooked meal without you having to spend ages in the kitchen. It&#8217;s a dinner-type meal that is easy to make. </p><h2>A Handy Shortcut</h2><p>If you want to make things even simpler, or just fancy a little change, using refrigerated crescent rolls instead of the biscuits works really well. You just lay them over the top. It gives it a slightly different vibe, almost like a super quick chicken pot pie. </p><p class="button-wrapper" data-attrs="{&quot;url&quot;:&quot;https://www.homestylecookingwithjenn.com/subscribe?&quot;,&quot;text&quot;:&quot;Subscribe now&quot;,&quot;action&quot;:null,&quot;class&quot;:null}" data-component-name="ButtonCreateButton"><a class="button primary" href="https://www.homestylecookingwithjenn.com/subscribe?"><span>Subscribe now</span></a></p><h2>A Few Ways to Mix It Up</h2><p>This recipe is pretty forgiving, so feel free to tweak it to your liking.</p><ul><li><p><strong>Chicken</strong>: The recipe uses canned chicken, which is super convenient for a quick meal. But if you have leftover rotisserie chicken, that&#8217;s great too. You&#8217;ll want about 2 to 2 1/2 cups, and maybe just a splash more milk to keep the filling nice and creamy.</p></li><li><p><strong>Vegetables</strong>: For the frozen vegetables, any mix you like will work just fine. Peas and carrots are classic, but whatever you have on hand or prefer will do the trick.</p></li></ul><p>It&#8217;s just a reliable dish for when you need some good comfort food. I hope you give it a try sometime. If you do, I&#8217;d love to hear how it turns out or if you have any of your own favorite comfort food traditions you like to make.</p><div class="file-embed-wrapper" data-component-name="FileToDOM"><div class="file-embed-container-reader"><div class="file-embed-container-top"><image class="file-embed-thumbnail-default" src="https://substackcdn.com/image/fetch/$s_!0Cy0!,f_auto,q_auto:good,fl_progressive:steep/https%3A%2F%2Fsubstack.com%2Fimg%2Fattachment_icon.svg"></image><div class="file-embed-details"><div class="file-embed-details-h1">Chicken &amp; Biscuits</div><div class="file-embed-details-h2">389KB &#8729; PDF file</div></div><a class="file-embed-button wide" href="https://homestylecookingwithjenn.substack.com/api/v1/file/6b4d5429-61a2-4e4a-811d-77bcd3f16f1a.pdf"><span class="file-embed-button-text">Download</span></a></div><a class="file-embed-button narrow" href="https://homestylecookingwithjenn.substack.com/api/v1/file/6b4d5429-61a2-4e4a-811d-77bcd3f16f1a.pdf"><span class="file-embed-button-text">Download</span></a></div></div><div><hr></div><div class="recipe-embed" data-attrs="{&quot;id&quot;:12419}" data-component-name="RecipeToDOM"></div><p></p><p>Seriously, try to let it sit for a couple of minutes before you dive in - I know, it&#8217;s hard! Pair with the earthy flavor of roasted parmesan potatoes, and you have a perfect meal. The best part? This simple, elegant meal can be on the table in less than an hour. It&#8217;s so fancy that you may make your significant other believe they forgot your anniversary. </p><h2>History of Dijon Chicken</h2><p>Dijon chicken is much younger than you might think. It was created in the 1930s by the wife of Gaston G&#233;rard, the Mayor of Dijon, France. The story goes that the renowned hostess had a bit of a mishap while preparing a chicken dish for the famous gastronomist Curnonsky (Maurice Edmond Sailland).</p><p>Mrs. G&#233;rard dropped a jar of mustard and some spices into her dish as it was cooking. Instead of letting the dish be ruined, the couple added wine, cr&#232;me fraiche, and grated Comt&#233;. Thus, the original dish was born. Curnonsky loved the dish and named it Chicken Dijon.</p><p>Is the story true or just a tall tale designed to make this humble dish more exciting? Only history knows the answer to that. What is known is that Chicken Dijon is a wonderful dish, perfect for either a weeknight meal or entertaining guests. </p><p class="button-wrapper" data-attrs="{&quot;url&quot;:&quot;https://www.homestylecookingwithjenn.com/subscribe?&quot;,&quot;text&quot;:&quot;Subscribe now&quot;,&quot;action&quot;:null,&quot;class&quot;:null}" data-component-name="ButtonCreateButton"><a class="button primary" href="https://www.homestylecookingwithjenn.com/subscribe?"><span>Subscribe now</span></a></p><h2>Non-History of Roasted Parmesan Potatoes</h2><p>While researching this recipe, I tried to uncover the history behind Roasted Parmesan Potatoes. Unfortunately, my efforts were unsuccessful, and I couldn&#8217;t find much information. Roasted potatoes have been enjoyed for centuries, but I wasn&#8217;t able to determine exactly when cooks started adding cheese to the humble potato.</p><div class="captioned-image-container"><figure><a class="image-link image2 is-viewable-img" target="_blank" href="https://substackcdn.com/image/fetch/$s_!-9co!,f_auto,q_auto:good,fl_progressive:steep/https%3A%2F%2Fsubstack-post-media.s3.amazonaws.com%2Fpublic%2Fimages%2F0db3fe46-69b4-41a9-996d-a8375ad469cc_455x405.png" data-component-name="Image2ToDOM"><div class="image2-inset"><picture><source type="image/webp" srcset="https://substackcdn.com/image/fetch/$s_!-9co!,w_424,c_limit,f_webp,q_auto:good,fl_progressive:steep/https%3A%2F%2Fsubstack-post-media.s3.amazonaws.com%2Fpublic%2Fimages%2F0db3fe46-69b4-41a9-996d-a8375ad469cc_455x405.png 424w, https://substackcdn.com/image/fetch/$s_!-9co!,w_848,c_limit,f_webp,q_auto:good,fl_progressive:steep/https%3A%2F%2Fsubstack-post-media.s3.amazonaws.com%2Fpublic%2Fimages%2F0db3fe46-69b4-41a9-996d-a8375ad469cc_455x405.png 848w, https://substackcdn.com/image/fetch/$s_!-9co!,w_1272,c_limit,f_webp,q_auto:good,fl_progressive:steep/https%3A%2F%2Fsubstack-post-media.s3.amazonaws.com%2Fpublic%2Fimages%2F0db3fe46-69b4-41a9-996d-a8375ad469cc_455x405.png 1272w, https://substackcdn.com/image/fetch/$s_!-9co!,w_1456,c_limit,f_webp,q_auto:good,fl_progressive:steep/https%3A%2F%2Fsubstack-post-media.s3.amazonaws.com%2Fpublic%2Fimages%2F0db3fe46-69b4-41a9-996d-a8375ad469cc_455x405.png 1456w" sizes="100vw"><img src="https://substackcdn.com/image/fetch/$s_!-9co!,w_1456,c_limit,f_auto,q_auto:good,fl_progressive:steep/https%3A%2F%2Fsubstack-post-media.s3.amazonaws.com%2Fpublic%2Fimages%2F0db3fe46-69b4-41a9-996d-a8375ad469cc_455x405.png" width="357" height="317.7692307692308" data-attrs="{&quot;src&quot;:&quot;https://substack-post-media.s3.amazonaws.com/public/images/0db3fe46-69b4-41a9-996d-a8375ad469cc_455x405.png&quot;,&quot;srcNoWatermark&quot;:null,&quot;fullscreen&quot;:null,&quot;imageSize&quot;:null,&quot;height&quot;:405,&quot;width&quot;:455,&quot;resizeWidth&quot;:357,&quot;bytes&quot;:296336,&quot;alt&quot;:null,&quot;title&quot;:null,&quot;type&quot;:&quot;image/png&quot;,&quot;href&quot;:null,&quot;belowTheFold&quot;:true,&quot;topImage&quot;:false,&quot;internalRedirect&quot;:&quot;https://homestylecookingwithjenn.substack.com/i/164366446?img=https%3A%2F%2Fsubstack-post-media.s3.amazonaws.com%2Fpublic%2Fimages%2F0db3fe46-69b4-41a9-996d-a8375ad469cc_455x405.png&quot;,&quot;isProcessing&quot;:false,&quot;align&quot;:null,&quot;offset&quot;:false}" class="sizing-normal" alt="" srcset="https://substackcdn.com/image/fetch/$s_!-9co!,w_424,c_limit,f_auto,q_auto:good,fl_progressive:steep/https%3A%2F%2Fsubstack-post-media.s3.amazonaws.com%2Fpublic%2Fimages%2F0db3fe46-69b4-41a9-996d-a8375ad469cc_455x405.png 424w, https://substackcdn.com/image/fetch/$s_!-9co!,w_848,c_limit,f_auto,q_auto:good,fl_progressive:steep/https%3A%2F%2Fsubstack-post-media.s3.amazonaws.com%2Fpublic%2Fimages%2F0db3fe46-69b4-41a9-996d-a8375ad469cc_455x405.png 848w, https://substackcdn.com/image/fetch/$s_!-9co!,w_1272,c_limit,f_auto,q_auto:good,fl_progressive:steep/https%3A%2F%2Fsubstack-post-media.s3.amazonaws.com%2Fpublic%2Fimages%2F0db3fe46-69b4-41a9-996d-a8375ad469cc_455x405.png 1272w, https://substackcdn.com/image/fetch/$s_!-9co!,w_1456,c_limit,f_auto,q_auto:good,fl_progressive:steep/https%3A%2F%2Fsubstack-post-media.s3.amazonaws.com%2Fpublic%2Fimages%2F0db3fe46-69b4-41a9-996d-a8375ad469cc_455x405.png 1456w" sizes="100vw" loading="lazy"></picture><div class="image-link-expand"><div class="pencraft pc-display-flex pc-gap-8 pc-reset"><button tabindex="0" type="button" class="pencraft pc-reset pencraft icon-container restack-image"><svg role="img" width="20" height="20" viewBox="0 0 20 20" fill="none" stroke-width="1.5" stroke="var(--color-fg-primary)" stroke-linecap="round" stroke-linejoin="round" xmlns="http://www.w3.org/2000/svg"><g><title></title><path d="M2.53001 7.81595C3.49179 4.73911 6.43281 2.5 9.91173 2.5C13.1684 2.5 15.9537 4.46214 17.0852 7.23684L17.6179 8.67647M17.6179 8.67647L18.5002 4.26471M17.6179 8.67647L13.6473 6.91176M17.4995 12.1841C16.5378 15.2609 13.5967 17.5 10.1178 17.5C6.86118 17.5 4.07589 15.5379 2.94432 12.7632L2.41165 11.3235M2.41165 11.3235L1.5293 15.7353M2.41165 11.3235L6.38224 13.0882"></path></g></svg></button><button tabindex="0" type="button" class="pencraft pc-reset pencraft icon-container view-image"><svg xmlns="http://www.w3.org/2000/svg" width="20" height="20" viewBox="0 0 24 24" fill="none" stroke="currentColor" stroke-width="2" stroke-linecap="round" stroke-linejoin="round" class="lucide lucide-maximize2 lucide-maximize-2"><polyline points="15 3 21 3 21 9"></polyline><polyline points="9 21 3 21 3 15"></polyline><line x1="21" x2="14" y1="3" y2="10"></line><line x1="3" x2="10" y1="21" y2="14"></line></svg></button></div></div></div></a></figure></div><h2>Make it a Meal</h2><p>Crispy Dijon Chicken is an amazing recipe on its own. With just four ingredients and minimal effort, any cook can prepare a tasty and inspiring chicken dish. Serve it with roasted parmesan potatoes as a side, and dinner is sure to impress. It's clear that the flavor profiles of mustard and cheese complement each other perfectly. </p><p>Even though this meal is one of the easiest I have in my collection, it can be deceiving due to the presentation. I&#8217;ve had friends and significant others exclaim how I spoil them with &#8220;fancy&#8221; meals. The reality is quite different; I simply coat a basic chicken breast with mustard, bread it, and pop it in the oven at the last minute. Not bad for 15 minutes of work.</p><h2>Make it Your Own</h2><p>Both my crispy Dijon chicken and roasted parmesan potatoes are very simple recipes with few ingredients. Modifying this type of recipe is a little more challenging, but experimentation is still possible. The easiest place to start is by playing with the mustard. While this is Dijon chicken, try using grainy or stone-ground mustard. I prefer Grey Poupon original but sometimes substitute it with a German stone-ground version. This straightforward step can make a significant difference in flavor.</p><p>Another way to experiment with the chicken is to skip the searing before placing it in the oven. I know this may sound crazy, but when I have thin chicken pieces, I forgo the skillet and go straight to the oven. This helps ensure the chicken doesn&#8217;t overcook. It comes out much lighter than when seared, but I&#8217;m okay with that. If you&#8217;re fine with not having a deep golden color on your chicken, then give it a try.</p><p>Lastly, you can always swap out the side dish. I enjoy having roasted potatoes with my chicken, but sometimes I change up the seasoning or even the cheese. There are no limits to the combinations you can create, and I can&#8217;t wait to see what you come up with.</p><h2>Final Thoughts Before the Recipe</h2><p>Crispy Dijon chicken and roasted parmesan potatoes are truly the perfect combination, whether you're preparing dinner for your family or enjoying a date night. The flavor profiles complement each other beautifully. As always, I look forward to seeing your creations.
